History
Piaggia winery is situated in Poggio a Caiano about 14 kilometres west of Florence with vineyards in the Carmignano Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin area.
The winery was started by Mauro Vannucci who bought land in the mid 70s, convinced that its excellent exposure to the sun and permeable, dry and clayey soil would produce a great Carmignano wine. He produced the first Piaggia Carmignano Riserva DOCG in 1991 and since then his passion for wine has steadily grown. His daughter Silvia also became involved in this project and is now the owner. Mauro purchased a further 15 hectares in the early 90s in one of the best areas of the appellation, a kind of natural basin in the heart of Carmignano with a spectacular view of the city of Florence.
The current property is about 25 hectares, of which 20 are vineyards.
Piaggia cellar has been dug into the hillside so as to reach and maintain an ideal temperature to age wines correctly.
